The Progesterone n/a (Catalog #MBS539717) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. MyBioSource\'s Progesterone can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA).This Progesterone ELISA Kit is an ELISA based on the principle of competitive binding. The microtiter wells are coated with a polyclonal antibody directed towards an antigenic site on the Progesterone molecule. Endogenous Progesterone of a patient sample competes with a Progesterone horseradish peroxidase conjugate for binding to the coated antibody. After incubation the unbound conjugate is washed off. The amount of bound peroxidase conjugate is reverse proportional to the concentration of Progesterone in the sample. After addition of the substrate solution, the intensity of colour developed is inversely proportional to the concentration of Progesterone in the patient sample. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Progesterone n/a for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process.

ELISA kit for detection of Progesterone in the research laboratory.
Biological Significance: Progesterone (pregn-4-ene-3, 20-dione) is a C21 steroid hormone containing a keto-group (at C-3) and a double bond between C-4 and C-5 (Delta4). This steroid hormone is a female sex hormone which, in conjunction with estrogens, regulates the accessory organs during the menstrual cycle and it is particularly important in preparing the endometrium for the implantation of the blastocyte and in maintaining pregnancy.
Biohazard Information: All reagents of this test kit derived from human or animal serum or plasma have been tested and confirmed negative for HIV, HbsAg and HCV. However, there is no test method that can offer complete assurance therefore all reagents, should be treated as potential biohazards in use and for disposal. Progesterone ELISA Kit or ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbant assays) Kits in general, are a valuable research tool for a myriad of applications in a range of scientific settings. Currently, three major types of ELISA formats are used by researchers: sandwich, competitive and indirect. Most commercially available ELISA Kits are sandwich or competitive. Commercially available ELISA Kits contain wells that have been pre-coated with the capture antibody. Please refer to the product manual for the ELISA format of your specific kit.
